Lala Kishen Dayal Bhalla and his Cousin Lala Bishen Das Bhalla (Founders), established an Arya Samaj Sabha & Dharamshala (Guest House for travelers) in the early 1900 at Srihargobind Pur Sahib, Punjab, India. Both the cousin's Lala Kishen Dayal Bhalla and Lala Bishen Das Bhalla were Pakka “Arya Samajis” and Lala Bishen Das Bhalla was the president of the Arya Samaj Sri Hargobindpur, and also he was the life member of the ARYA PRATINIDHI SABHA PUNJAB SAMBANDHAK COMMITTEE. Both the cousins were educationist, and social reformer and very well known in District Gurdaspur and around Punjab.
The Arya Samaj is well-known as a religious Organization founded by Swami Dayanand Saraswati in 1875. The founders were devout believers in the principles of Arya Samaj and followers of Swami Dayanand. Their foremost goal was helping the community perform social functions & provide shelter to travelers. Lala Kishen Dayal Bhalla had established a wedding party’s requirement and bought the utensils, cooking pots and all other requirements for 100 people including Vedi, Silver Mukat and Gulabdani etc in Sri Hargobindpur.
Lala Kishen Dayal Bhalla and his cousin Lala Bishen Das Bhalla and family presented a Kurta, Pajama and Shawl (Shirt, Pajama and Shawl) in the year 1906 to Swami Shradhanand Ji Religious leader, preacher of Arya Samaj and founder of Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidalaya and also Lala Bishen Das Bhalla promised swami ji he will donate his son Bhim Sain Bhalla to start and built Gurukul Kangri Vishwadalaya when he visited Sri Hargobindpur Sahib.
This Arya Samaj Sabha (A.S.S) started performing Vedic ceremonies for the local families in early 1900’s. This tradition continued by Founders families for many years after their death.
Unfortunately, these services were interrupted in the 1980’s due to lack of support and interest by locals as founding families members moved away from Sri Hargobindpur Sahib to part of India and abroad.
At Present
Currently, with the initiative and significant time and monetary contribution by Late Shri. Darshan Kumar Bhalla along with support from Shri. Baldev Raj Bhalla, Doctor Anil Bhalla this ASS is getting renovated since 2017 after being damaged to ruins.
We would also like to express our gratitude to Shri Satish Chander Khosla for keeping constant vigilance towards the old decayed building & kept the unauthorised persons away to illegally occupy the current site until renovations started in 2017. We are thankful to Mr. Khosla for his continuous support and guidance in running the current Arya Samaj Sabha.
Significant renovations have been done and ASS is open for Religious and Social functions, more work are in progress to upgrade various facilities in the buildings. An Achyaraji is appointed who takes care of the Samajis daily tasks; havan is performed on daily and/or weekly basis.
The Arya Samaj Sabha can hold up to 100 persons. To find out more about how to organize an event at the Arya Samaj Sabha requires assistance to maintain this great facility.
